Monterosso is the most western and biggest town in Cinque Terre. Surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, with beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters, Monterosso is one of the most welcoming villages of the Eastern Riviera.
The village's old and new (railway station) parts are divided by the Aurora medieval tower on the Capuchins' hill.
Many valuable masterpieces (among them a Crucifixion probably painted by Van Dyck) can be viewed in the San Francesco church.
The "Giant's" statue, a suggestive concrete statue on a rock spur, and the villa of the Nobel prize winner Eugenio Montale are worth a visit.
At the same altitude of Volastra, near Monterosso, there is the Madonna di Soviore sanctuary
